Report a Message in Outlook

Report Message Add-in is now available to UNBC Exchange Online Users

The Report Message add-in for Outlook and Outlook on the Web (formerly known as Outlook Web App) enables people to easily report false positives (good email marked as bad) or false negatives (bad email allowed) to Microsoft and its affiliates for analysis. Specifically, you can mark a message as Junk, Phishing, or Not Junk.

Microsoft uses these submissions to improve the effectiveness of email protection technologies. For example, suppose that people are reporting many messages using the Report Message add-in. This information surfaces in the Security Dashboard and other reports. UNBC's Security team can use this information as an indication that anti-phishing policies might need to be updated.

Please note that the Report Message add-in is necessary because:

  • You will likely be seeing more mail show up in your Junk Email folder, whereas previously there was little to none. Please check your Junk Email folder regularly.
  • ITS will not be managing centralized allow/block lists for specific email addresses/domains, as was done previously. 100% of incoming mail will be delivered, either to the Inbox, Junk Email folder, or via Quarantine.

How to Install the Report Message add-in

This add-in should automatically be installed for everyone at UNBC, but it can also be manually installed by individuals if necessary:
