Wireless Services - ITS is updating the SSIDs and wireless service at all UNBC campus's:
 
  • New connections called "UNBC-Guest Sign-up" and "UNBC-Guest" will be available everywhere. UNBC-Guest Sign-up will permit users to self-register for a password which can be used on UNBC-Guest.

Primary Storage Firmware and Software Upgrade 9.3
 
  • Both the software and firmware on the primary storage cluster, and interconnect switches, needs to be upgraded. This may result in reduced performance but should not result in any storage becoming unavailable.

ITS Alert May 27th - Apple Products ITS Information Notice –  If you have an Apple device, please make sure you update your devices as soon as possible.
 
  • Apple has released critical security updates for Catalina, Mojave, iOS, iWatch.
  • All users with Apple products should ensure these updates are done as soon as possible to ensure that their devices stay secure and functioning properly.

All Connectivity and VPN Patching on Global Protect
 
  •  All network connectivity will be lost intermittently while patching is occurring on our Palo Alto Firewall systems.
  • Patching will also be occurring on the Global Protect VPN system.  VPN connections may not work during this window.

ITS Information Notice – regarding Outlook for iOS and Android mobile devices

Anyone who has a m365 mailbox is able to use outlook for their mobile device

What does this mean?

• This means that Employees and Alumni will be able to use the outlook for iOS and Android application.
• Students will be migrated to m365 prior to September 2021.

Brief Highlights

• Access to shared mailboxes on your mobile device
• Feature rich calendaring experience
• Outlook can be set as the default mail app
• Outlook can be configured to require biometrics to open – enhancing security!
• If you use this application as the method of access to your UNBC mail (rather than your device’s integrated active sync client), a remote wipe only wipes the data within the Outlook app and does NOT trigger a full device wipe.

ITS Change Notification – Cherwell is being replaced by a new tool effective 4:30 pm March 26th, 2021
 
There is no action required on your part, however the Customer Support portal and emails from the system will look different. Please continue to use the support@unbc.ca email address to receive support.  The Customer Portal link can be found at unbc.ca/login or on unbc.ca/its.
 
ITS is moving from Cherwell Service Desk Management for several reasons, namely reducing budgetary costs associated with our current Cherwell licensing, and adding continual improvement through upgrades driven by the vendor.  This is also a critical part of using an IT Service Management (ITSM) system to its fullest capabilities.
 
As the date for this change is March 26th we wanted to let you know that effective 4:30pm Friday March 26th this new ITSM system will be live.
 
Please see the Change Notification email sent to announce today for full details.
