Software- License Types and Compliance

License Types

Per User:   A license that provides access to the software to a specific number of users. All installations of the software will be counted but installations across multiple devices for the same user will be counted as one license consumption.

Concurrent and Network License:  A license which provides wider access to the software but limits the number of simultaneous users using the software. It may or may not include compliance enforcement capabilities. Typically, a concurrent license is “checked out” from the license server when the software is run, assuming a license is available. If no license is available, the requester experiences a denial of service.

Named User:  A license that allows access to the software by a specific number of named users. In some cases, these licenses can be transferred from one user to another. When you create the license, you should allocate the license to specific users.

Stand Alone: Standalone licensing allows users to install the software and the license on a single workstation without the need to be connected to a company network.

Perpetual: Authorizes an individual to use a program indefinitely, the vendor typically provides a technical support period of one to three years. All UNBC software must have regular updates supported and installed for IT security reasons.

Privacy and Terms and Conditions

The links for terms and conditions and privacy for vendors will almost always be at the bottom of the web pages. Terms and Conditions will outline how the software can be used. Examples would be: education only, how many machines each serial key can be installed on, etc.
