Supported Email Clients

UNBC's Email servers require applications to support modern authentication. 

Note: If you are running a mail application that is not on this list, follow the instructions at the bottom of this article to determine if your mail client will continue to work after the change is made.

 

Basic list of email clients that will continue to work after the change is made:

  • Popular mail clients for Windows
    • Outlook 2016 and above (including outlook 365) 
    • Thunderbird version 78 or above
  • Popular mail clients for Mac
    • Outlook for Mac v16 and above (including outlook for mac 365)
    • Mac Mail found on Mac OS 10.14 (Mojave) and later
    • Thunderbird version 78 or above
  • iOS and iPad OS
    • Outlook for iOs
    • Apple Mail on iOS 11 and above
    • Apple Mail on iPadOS 13.1 and above
  • Android OS
    • Outlook for Android

What if I use a mail client that is not on this list?

You must determine if your mail client supports modern authentication. Review your mail client publisher's website. If you are still unsure, please contact support@unbc.ca.

My mail client will not / does not support modern authentication?

UNBC mail servers require modern authentication starting in October 2022. You can use the web-based version of outlook (outlook.office.com) or you can explore other mail clients.
