Adding Printers on Intune Devices

Note: If your machine is off campus, Global Protect VPN needs to be connected to access UNBC printers.

Note: First time Ricoh driver install may ask for admin credentials.  If you are presented with admin credentials prompt, please submit a ticket to support@unbc.ca.

Note: The best practice is to install and use BWPrinting and ColourPrinting print queues, and not specific printers. A print job sent to BWPrinting or ColourPrinting can be released from any Ricoh MFD on campus.

Windows OS Devices:

Method 1

  1. Open the Run box by pressing Windows key + R
  2. Enter \\printserver.unbc.ca in the box, and press enter
  3. Locate the printer you want in the list
    • As per the Note above, the best practice is to install and use BWPrinting and/or ColourPrinting
  4. Right-click the printer and select Connect...

Method 2

  1. Search for Printers & scanners, click to open
  2. Click Add Device, then Add manually
  3. Choose the option Select a shared printer by name
  4. Enter \\printserver.unbc.ca\<printername> , IE: \\printserver.unbc.ca\prt502
    • As per the Note above, the best practice is to install and use \\printserver.unbc.ca\BWPrinting and/or \\printserver.unbc.ca\ColourPrinting
  5. Click Next
  6. Click Next
  7. Set as default or not
  8. Click Finish

The printer should now be available for use.

Mac OS Devices:

Open System Settings → Printers and Scanners

  • Click Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax ....
  • Select IP from the top three icons.
  • In the Address field: printserver.unbc.ca.
  • Protocol field: Line Printer Daemon - LPD.
  • Queue: add the name of the print queue (ie: prt701).
    • As per the Note above, the best practice is to install and use the BWPrinting and/or ColourPrinting queue
  • Name field: add the name of the print queue (ie: prt701).
  • Location field: Type the name of the room the printer is located in (Optional)
  • Use: Change from Auto Select to the correct Ricoh print driver.
  • Click on Add.
  • You may want to make this printer the default by selecting the Default Printer option after the printer has been added.

The printer should now be available for use.
