MFA - Registering Phone Number for Call or Text Option (Students and Alumni ONLY)

This article summarizes the procedure for registering a phone number to use MFA via call/text option. This option is only available for students/alumni.

STUDENTS/ALUMNI can use their phone number for registering MFA on their UNBC account. They can choose call or text option to get the code on their phone number once registered.

Reminder - Please contact IT support if you have changed your phone number that was previously registered for MFA or if you are upgrading your mobile device which has Microsoft Authenticator app installed

To start the registration process:

1. Please go to https://aka.ms/mfasetup on your computer (desktop, or laptop; UNBC or personal)
2. Sign in with your UNBC email (username@unbc.ca) and password
3. To proceed, click Next

 

4. Select 'I want to set up a different method'                            ​​​​​​

 

5. Select 'Phone' from the drop down menu and click 'Confirm'           ​​​

 

6. Enter your phone number by selecting the appropriate country code and click 'Next'

 

7.  Enter the code received Via Text/Call                             ​​​​​

 

8. Please follow the instructions to complete the registration.
