Effective 2026, Microsoft Teams has changed the Microsoft Teams applications File tab name to Shared.
What does that mean for me?
Previously, there was a Files tab in Teams channels and chats.
That tab is being renamed Shared, and it will bring together:
- A channel’s document library (previously found under the Files tab)
- All the files and links shared in that channel or chat
- Some channels may still show a Files tab, while others may already show a Shared tab.
You can open, edit, upload, and manage these files the same way you did before. If you open a channel and don’t see a Files tab, look for Shared instead. That’s where you’ll find your documents.
