How to Reset a UNBC network account Password

Reset Option 1 - https://password.unbc.ca

  1. Make sure you are doing this from your UNBC-provided computer. You can reset your password from a non-UNBC computer or mobile phone, but doing so will make life a bit more difficult for you in the short term.
  2. Go to https://password.unbc.ca
  3. Sign in (on this site, enter your UNBC account username without the @unbc.ca)
  4. Select the 'Change Password' option
  5. Enter a new password, and select the 'Change Password' button.
  6. After confirmation of a successful password reset, wait for at least 5 minutes to allow the new password to sync from UNBC's local systems out to Microsoft Entra. Maybe make yourself a cup of coffee or tea?
  7. Perform an account credential sync on your computer (see the options below in the Troubleshooting section, depending on your physical location)

Troubleshooting a Password Reset

If you have reset your account password, and are now having difficulty with your UNBC-provided computer (eg. you are being prompted for your new password by various programs, or some things such as logging into your computer requires your old password) you probably need to perform a credential sync.

Account Credential Sync - Option 1: On-campus

  1. If you performed the password reset from an on-campus computer:
    1. Lock the computer (Sign Out or Reboot would also work, they just take longer)
    2. Unlock the computer
    3. Done! Though it might be helpful to perform a Reboot now.
  2. If you performed the password reset from a UNBC laptop that was off-campus:
    1. Bring the laptop to campus
    2. Physically connect the computer to the campus network with a network cable
    3. Sign in with your new account password
    4. Done! Though it might be helpful to perform a Reboot now.

Account Credential Sync - Option 2: Remote

  1. Connect to the UNBC Global Protect VPN
  2. Lock the computer (do not Sign Out or Reboot, as that will disconnect the VPN and break the sync process)
  3. Unlock the computer, using your new password
  4. You can disconnect from the VPN now, if you don't need it otherwise. It also might be helpful to perform a Reboot now.
